Cougar Radio Teams up With Local Shelters to Host “Rent-A-Pup”

In a win/win situation, students de-stress before finals while socializing dogs that are up for adoption

On Friday April 13, 2018, WCUG-FM Cougar Radio teamed up with local animal shelters PAWS Humane and Animal Ark Rescue to host the first “Rent-A-Pup” event at CSU. During this event, students were able to pick a dog from either organization, and for $5 each, students could play with their dogs of choosing for 15 minutes.

Each organization brought three ready-to-adopt dogs, which were rented by students over 50 times during the window of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., raising a total of $346 for the no-kill organizations. Rachel Lucas, Operations Manager of WCUG and Senior Public Relations student said, “The event was a great success! We are looking forward to making this event annual and building our relationship with PAWS and Animal Ark.”

Students participating in COMM 2136 along with volunteers at WCUG gave their time and presence to this event while also obtaining CSU Involve hours. If you are interested in helping with “Rent-A-Pup” or events like it in the future, stop by the WCUG headquarters in the Carpenters Building on the CSU RiverPark campus to fill out a volunteer form.
