2018 Drag Show

Students sashay on the runway!

Queens and kings slayed the stage with fierce runway walks and fishy outfits on Wednesday, March 28 for the 2018 drag show presented by ResLife and hosted by Madame Zatara (De’Marcus Monroe), the winner of ResLife’s 2015 drag show. After opening appearances and introductions, Zatara gave a thrilling performance, and throughout the night, she kept the crowd energized and engaged with her sparkling personality.

Soon after her own performance, Zatara introduced each contestant for the talent portion of the show. Giving them time to change, she then invited members from the audience to compete in the audience runway walk competition. Students strutted their stuff, gaining enthusiastic approval from their peers. The winner of the competition, Ricky Ricardo Walker, received an official ResLife lunchbox.

The talent portion of the show was fierce and fabulous. With performances including intense lip syncs, live painting, and even self-deprecating voiceovers, contestants proved that they had come to win. During the interview session, they were faced with such questions as, “Why is it important to you to be a Cougar,” “Where would you live if you could choose,” and “What is one issue that your generation is facing?”

While the judges deliberated backstage, more students were invited on stage for a dance-off, followed by a captivating performance by the winner of ResLife’s 2017 drag show, Peggy Satellite (Curtis Ray). Finally, all of the contestants were brought on stage where the results were announced: in fourth place was Avant Savant, in third place was Warren Peace, in second place was Cristelle Salamanca Banks, and the first place winner was Samantha Moon.

Moon’s success wasn’t only an emotional moment for her but also for her drag mother, Madame Zatara, and her actual mother who was in the audience. Moon was crowned by Peggy Satellite and Miss Columbus State University Danesha Evens, who was also one of the judges. Other judges included faculty from the theater department and Assistant Vice President Adrienne Craig from Student Affairs.

ConDRAGulations to Samantha Moon for becoming ResLife’s 2018 drag show winner, and we look forward to seeing you at next year's show!
