President announces new constitution on its way

On August 24, 2017 at 12:30 p.m., the first SGA meeting of the semester was held in Davidson in the Columbus Room.

SGA president Logan Ragan informed attendees that a draft for a new student constitution was on its way, waiting for a two-thirds vote from the student body. Ragan voiced his support for the new constitution by calling the current one “extremely outdated” and said “a lot of the policies in there are no longer in place.” Ragan then opened the floor for a motion.

Several students approved the motion. Once there are the two-thirds votes needed to approve the constitution, students are allowed to look over the draft and make recommendations and edits so “it is the students who are editing the constitution,” said Ragan. Mid-September was the given date on which the fully ready constitution will be ratified.

Jasmine Navarro, Vice-president of Scholastic Affairs, encouraged more student organizations to participate with SGA events and announced a five hundred dollar award and two other prizes. Students were given a sheet on how the point system works and how to earn points. Navarro also emphasized that a goal this year is to promote CSU pride by having event prizes like CSU t-shirts other CSU related merchandise.

Isabella Nunez, Vice-president of Finance, announced that the overall budget for this year is nine thousand dollars. She hopes to remedy what ever problems organizations have had in the past with requesting funds.

Allison Grinnage, Chief Justice gave a brief overview of her duties, such as dealing with overdue book fees and parking tickets.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 7 at 12:30 p.m. and will feature President Chris Markwood as guest speaker.
