Campus Police Apprehend Thief on Main Campus

Main Campus - Columbus State University Police apprehended a local thief on Tuesday, Aug. 22, who was apparently attempting to break into cars in the parking lot of the CSU Police Station.

Stephen Christopher Hamilton, of 2503 Camille Drive in Columbus, was witnessed attempting to illegally enter several vehicles on campus. Once confronted, Hamilton fled the scene but was apprehended near Plant Operations in the wooded area around Lindsay Creek.

Hamilton has been charged with criminal attempt burglary, loitering, and criminal trespass. He is not a student or employee at CSU.

Anyone who spots suspicious activities on campus may report them to the CSU Police at (706) 568-2022. Please remember to keep your vehicle locked at all times to reduce the chance of theft.
