STUDENT INJURED AFTER FALL FROM ZIP LINE AT COLUMBUS STATE'S COUGAR KICKOFF

A Columbus State University Student was injured after a fall from a portable zip line on Wednesday, August 16 at approximately 2 p.m. The student fell roughly 20 feet, directly onto concrete and had what appeared to be a broken arm and several lacerations to their elbow. The student was immediately taken by ambulance to a medical facility for further treatment.

The fall occurred during one of the Cougar Kickoff events at CSU’s main campus –– a series of activities put on for the incoming students attending fall semester.

“She fell from the very top,” said a witness who was watching at the time. “She didn’t even get halfway and she just fell.” The witness added that the student was screaming due to the pain from the fall.

When asked to comment on the situation, the event staff who were operating the zipline at the time of the fall declined to comment. Campus police said they could not comment because they were still conducting an investigation. Greg Hudginson, Director of University Relations at CSU, said the university will release a statement to the CSU community soon.

Fun-Tastic Promotions is the company who provided the zip line for the Cougar Kickoff event. The Ledger-Enquirer reported that a company representative said an incident like this has not occurred before.
