Rankin Den to Allow “To-Go” Orders Starting this Fall

Dining Services General Manager Justin Gurski announced in an interview with The Saber that the Rankin Den will begin offering to-go meals starting Fall 2016. Students will make a $5 deposit of Cougar Cash to receive a reusable hard plastic container, which can be filled with food and then eaten elsewhere.

“The containers are BPA free, recyclable, microwave safe, dishwasher safe and NSF approved,” said Gurski. “Students may receive the containers at the register at the Rankin Den & Dining for any student on a meal plan. Once students have their container, they will simply swipe in and fill their container, and take their meal to go. The next time they wish to get a to-go box, students will simply return the box for a new one – all we ask is that students rinse their box out before returning.” Students can dine-in as always, and will also be allowed to swipe and eat, and then swipe again to take a box of food with them.

The Den used to have a to-go option based on a fixed menu, but it was canceled in early 2015. Gurski said that the decision to implement a new to-go option was made based on student feedback. “We received a tremendous request for the return of a to go option at the Rankin Den & Dining location. We listened, heard the importance to students and found a solution.”

There are not currently plans to extend the program to the Main Campus Cougar Café, but Gurski says that “...we are always open to student feedback and requests.”
